I have a 1924 home with steep stairs. Near the top are two magnetic panel doors for crawlspace access. Just wondering what the rail height should be. The actual part your hand rests on. Thanks for any thoughts.

Thanks, Joe
i';m not sure whgat arcways has there, but the normal range can be from 32" to 38" H measured vertically from the leading edge of the tread to top of handrail. I notice that you siad this was a steep stair layout. In my experience, the steeper they are, the more you want to range towards the high end of that range, about 36 -38" high

Yeah, on a steep stair it's good to err on the high side.
I beleive it's now code in Mich that a hand rail has to be closed at each end...that is a small 90 deg return to the wall???
Comments??
Makes sense to me. I've had various articles of clothing hang up on an open ended rail more than once. No falls or even near falls, but I believe it could happen.
