Probably a stupid question but here goes.
Want to finish a basement in an existing house. If I frame the 2×4 walls to the correct height and then try to stand them up, they won’t be able to be stood up. So, what do I do – frame them 1/2″ short and then shim the top once I get them up? Or, maybe nail the top plate to the ceiling and the bottom to the floor, and then toenail the studs in between?
Which brings me to another question – I guess I don’t need a double top plate since these walls aren’t load bearing, and there isn’t going to be any corner overlaps with the two top plates? I’m just doing the exterior walls.
I apologize that these questions are so rudimentary, just trying to save a bit of time up front on the project.
Thanks
