One way or the other, I’m doing it for the last time this time. I’ve been in Georgia since late Sept 03 and finally hooked up with a job I can get back on my feet with. Yesterday, I went out and spent $150.00 (not much) on a half azzed bag, hammer, speed square, chaulk box, 1″ chisel, utility knife, and sliding T bevel. Got a tape for Christmas.
So now I’m off building decks with a guy who’s never heard of Fine Homebuilding, never used a sliding T bevel, and does ‘high end’ decks for a franchise deck outfit. The pay sucks but it’s better than anything else around right now. I’m truly gaining experience with humility. Nonetheless, it’s begun and the road ahead looks a bit boring till I get my equipment situation going. I’m not a big fan of recipe work and will be ready to get back to remodelling after tooling up for it. These means to an end can suck but it’s work…

decks in Georgia in the summertime - - you have my sympathy - - here's hoping you have some shade - - good luck with your adventure, I don't doubt you can teach your partner a thing or two, and who knows, this humble beginning may put you in contact with with the right person to take a step up the ladder - -
best wishes, DOUD
Stay humble and focused and good things will happen. Just keep your "eyes on the prize" so to speak. Six years (this coming October) ago I had only the clothes on my back and was staying in a sober shelter. Today, I've got my own company, new truck/trailer, am happily married and own a house. Not bragging, just letting you know that you're not alone
Most important thing I can say....
I NEVER forget what it felt like to be in that position. And this keeps me from getting myself in the same situations that led to my last demise. Your situation may be different, but the feelings are all the same.
Make the best of it and just keep plugging.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words and thoughts. And diesel, that was a real classy way to handle your situation in the thread about your interesting morning. Only someone who's been there knows just how important those acts of compassion and kindness can be in the life of someone who's been down and is now on their way up.
Diesel said it all. Good post guys, and Diesel, you are the salt of the Earth and my hat is off to you.
