HI everybody. I am a new to the forum. I have a question regarding steam showers. More precisely: the steam generator:
The plumber feels it should have a filtered water supply and the supplier says that they have installed hundreds without a filtered water supply. Can you shed any light on this
debate?
Thanks, Vreni

Seems to me you would have to have a storage tank of filtered water as I know of no true filter that could keep up with the flow needed to supply the generator.
Now if you are talking about cartridge filter that catch sedemint then it seems like good idea--as long as it has a by-pass as not to starve the generator if the flow slowes down due to a dirty filter.
That's my two cents except to say Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the imput. I could see where a plugged filtering system could affect the generator. I'll check on that
Thanks
Whether you need a filter or not depends alot on the quality of the water supply. When I lived in Las Vegas, everything needed a filter, because the water was incredibly hard and would clog any small openings on misters, humidifiers, steam generators, etc. Here in NJ, there are no problems with hard water (plenty of other problems....lol), so the filter wouldn't be needed.

Thanks Bob

It also depends on the manufacturer. Some units have a flush cycle where they run water through the unit after the timer expires. I am an overkill guy. I put a filter in front to make it live longer. After all my Roma unit cost $2500 and I want it to live. I used an Everpure "Mineral Reduction System" filter. The generator basically boils the water and leaves anything in the water behind. I don't see how a filter could be a bad idea. They use very little water so a filter cartridge should last for years.
