I’m looking for a high quality steel insulated door for our walkout basement. It will be installed in an area that will see some water from rain so I’ prefer the frame not have much or any wood. Its also near our heating equipment so I’d like something with premium weatherstripping. No glass – just a slab or faux 6 panel.
What’s the best out there? Are the ones at HD or Lowes any good?
I’m going to be installing it in a rough concrete opening – any considerations I should make for that?
Thanks!

Any reason shy steel vs. fiberglass? Just asking 'cause I was looking at a steel door for my shop but the arch, GC and lead carp all talked me out of it. Seems like a lot of what is out there is made of old Coke cans or something - dents if you look at it too hard. The lead had just put one on his garage and regretted it. I went with the fiberglass and have been very happy with the results. Just my 2¢.
No reason for steel. Fiberglass would be acceptable if it is as or more durable. Sounds like, from your experience, it is more durable.
What brand did you choose?

There's actually a guy on the site - Stinger - that used to work for them and is a wealth of info. I've certainly been happy with the results. I have 2, and compared to the POS they replaced I'm ecstatic.
I purchased an insulated steel door from Sears approximately 20 years ago because I wanted its security vs wood door for my mountain second home. Very satisfied with it except for the heat buildup when exposed to direct sunlight; and convection draft when very cold. ( 110 degree and 10 degree max swing). It was a set in place wilth steel jambs and steel surounding the insulated core in door. If you can shield the door and convection is not a problem then it is a good idea for extra security. Otherwise, I agree with wrudiger; and personally would go Fiberglass.
