That is a Texas two step flashing. Obviously you northerners don't dance the same way as we do down here.
Pretty poor effort on the roofer's behalf. Is that a shingle or a roll roof product with the lines colored in?
Bruce
Some type of shingle I think , with a large exposure .
Didn't really look too close , but those steps jumped out at me on the way up the ladder .
Who ever did it, really doesn't like to do flashing work.

You ever sat on a hot roof while flashing? Boy does that burn!!
As I stood before the gates I realized that I never want to be as certain about anything as were the people who built this place. --Rabbi Sheila Peltz, on her visit to Auschwitz
Shouldn't be sitting anyways - on your knees with Patella T's for flashing work !
I never sit on a roof

Doesn't like or doesn't have any idea how to do it properly .
I've got a nice repair to do above this porch roof , but don't want to take time to do this area .
Ever hear of a Bertram from N port ?? He's the homemade staging guy !
Nope.I've only used two shingle roofers from that side of the water. one of them - I can't say his name here or I could get sued for slander since I don't have anything good to say about him.The other guy was from Northport,, and did me good, but he disappeared. IRS and bill collectors have called me about him a few times, so he must have used my name as a contact - and he only did one small roof for me....

Paul ,
This guy is doing the woodwork in Belfast off the homemade stagings .
He's from Northport . Woodwork he's doing looks pretty good .

And they didn't do any. They just re-used the last guy's.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
right - it was a joke.

Looks like it was do by Ray Charles!
I think it's fine! You just need a few 5 gallon buckets of roof cement slopped all over the place!
Walter,
I don't know. He got at least 60% of the intersection covered.
That's a passing grade, right? :)
Looks like you are not running out of work anytime soon. Plenty of work available for a good painter, too, by the looks of it.
Best,
Steve

Steve ,
Look closer at the pieces of step flashing - they're cracked at the bend or just worn thru .
No shortage here -- more being generated all the time with our monsoon June !

Walter,Sorry, bad attempt at humor. Looked similar to some of the flea market flashing that used to inhabit my roof. Was in DC for a meeting today. Saw some dandy homes up on Capitol Hill. Have to get my photo thread back on track now that we have a few sunny days forecast.Best,

Steve ,
Looking forward to more of the " Fat Roman " tour !
My pie was gone last nite , re-appeared this morning and was gone again earlier when I posted those pics .
The local weather just said we've had rain on 15 of the 23 days this month .

Another nice exhibition of step flashing technique .
I think this comes in an aerosol can !!

Steve ,
I've never had more work lined up and still coming in .
Wettest June ever recorded here in Bangor -- over 8 " .
Got lots of calls for stuff that ordinarily wouldn't cause problems , but now it needs to be repaired .
Had a short thread the other day on soldering galvanized , seemed to be some questions a few weeks back , so I took pictures of a job in Belfast to put on .
Best , WAlter
Walter,Great news for you! Glad to hear that things are so busy there. We are closing in on 7" for June here. Plants love it. Not so much fun to ride my bike in it though.I'll check out the galvanized thread.Best,

Steve ,
Only problem is that theres only one of me . Might need to get some help , but I hate to go back with payroll and all that goes with it .
Walter
Walter,Well, you could hire some of those fellows from Kentucky. But you might have to listen to stories all day about how they do things differently back home :)Hope you're able to find some help if you need it.Best,

Those guys would freeze to death up here this year !!
There are people out there , but just not ready to pull the trigger yet .
I like working solo a lot of the time , but some projects are too big to not have help , plus I'm getting further behind between workload and weather .

That flashing job reminds me of a comment Gunner made here once. I think it was him anyways.Somebody posted a photo of a partly mowed lawn and a really bad pattern. Unfinished and ugly as sin.Gunner said, "Somebody was mad at somebody else. Nobody can mow THAT BAD without trying to!"I remember that now when ever I see a really bad job, LOL

You guys in Maine think you are so cool with your copper and slate.
And you think you are the only ones who can install step flashing properly.
Well let me show you what we can do out here in Iowa (tall corn state).
How's that for a quality install.

Seriously. We tore the siding off a job about a month ago and this is what I found. This was about time of your thread, but i just didn't get a chance to post the pics.
Rich
Rich - about 15 years ago I had a moron working for me. His only value was that he had a driver's license and he showed up on time. How he got that driver's license evades me. But, I tried to teach him and thought I could let him step flash a wall. He also didn't see the necessity of the steps overlapping one another, but his crowing achievement was installing a whole house of downspouts with the crimp up.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image

installing a whole house of downspouts with the crimp up.
LOL
I am following Silver's Rant and Hazlett said something to the effect of
" Your roof is only as good as the most inexperienced guy on your crew."
He is so right
Rich
What's even funnier is that there was snow on the roof and it started melting while he was doing it. It was about 15 degrees and sunny and wasn't melting when I left him. When I got back he was completely soaked with snow melt. He told me the downspouts must be defective because the water was running on the outside of the spouts.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
That is a self cleaning downspout now. He was pretty clever eh?

He told me the downspouts must be defective
LOL
Rich,
I guess roofers around the country can all make similar mistakes .
Maybe he didn't have quite enough pieces of step flashing and tried to make do !!
