I use stilts on a regular basis. Anythign from screwing drywall to hanging crown molding. I have heard recently that insurance is really frowning on the use of these awesome tools. Should I call my insurance co? They never told me not to wear them, and they are listed on inventory.
Does anyone else use stilts much? If so, what for?
An inch to short. That’s the story of my life !

By insurance do you mean worker's comp or liability? I can see how they might be a concern to the work comp people, and I guess you could talk to whoever that is and find out. I seriously doubt they somehow exclude injuries caused by stilts, but you never know.
I've got a pair, but I don't use them too much anymore.
Working by myself, its more of a nuisance than a help. I set up a pair of benches and a plank if I need the height.
Its especially annoying when I drop something and have to get off the stilts to retrieve it
what are you talking about just get a pair of arm stilts, then you can stay on your leg stilts all day.
actually , seriously they do have those grabber thingys...you know the kind they use to pick up trash or change light bulbs.
you could be a regular inspector gadget!
Some things are better not brought up. As valuable as they are Id hate to ask and get turned down. Its often easiar to ask forgiveness than permission . Since "a no use of stilts decision" might occur , they can stick it cause I aint asking them. Workmans comp or insurance either one would not have a choice if they didnt put a rider on it them selves. Shh.
I use them for a lot of things and will not climb up and down ladders and planks if i CAN HELP IT .

I too used my stilts almost as much as my cordless screw gun. I always had a claw thing I made on a pole in case I drop something. My stilts were stolen and I bought new ones. Thing is I bought a pair that are much bigger than the ones I'm used to. Now I'm too scared to stay on them. Weird! I even used to walk up and down stairs and outside but the extra inches has me too nervous.
Be bigger ain't always better

The secret of Zen in two words is, "Not always so"!
When we meet, we say, Namaste'..it means..
My brother used to be really good on stilts. He could walk up and down stairs and outside, like you, and he could also somehow bend down and grab stuff off the floor.
He got smart, tho. He's now a maintenance guy for Verizon. Full benes, paid vacation, regular hours, the works.
But I've still got more tools!
Thanks for all the advice. I think I will go the "keep my mouth shut" option. I believe stilts area valuable tool even though the 42"'s are a bit scary at times. An inch to short. That's the story of my life !

I wear full body armor every day just in case of the insurance thing. Especially when I'm finishing furniture.
don't tell your ins co anything..unless you have recently won the lottery...I have never had a claim, always paid on time, called the agent whenever the job description changed and got dropped for no reason, they didn'tn notify me.For 5 months I had no WC ,liability or ins on my truck. The only reason I knew was I got a return premium in the mail notifying me my policy was dropped 5 mos before, which caused points on my licence and hassles with the Dept of MV !!!!!!.The only reason I was given was they were dropping contractors ins in NJ and NY....!!!!!!! OK I now have it in for the ins co's.I'd like to have all my premiums back..I could retire...
