We’ve got a backyard masonry project that is going to involve cutting limestone – approximately 60-70 cuts that I’d like to see the mason do on site if possible.
A tile saw won’t cut it ;o) – it’s going to take something like this:
View ImageFelker FRS-51 Stone Rail saw
- The pivoting head permits 45° angle cuts while the material lies flat
- Four-piece cutting surface detaches from water tray for easy cleaning and access to the water pump.
- Cutting table extension for large materials, left or right side
- Powerful direct drive motor
- Cutting head glides easily on sealed bearings
- Steel construction with powder coated finish to resist wear and corrosion
- Simple, durable legs are quickly removable for easy transportation
- One-year limited warranty on saw
- 6-month limited warranty on motor
They retail for around $2500 or so – any idea who might rent such a thing? NJ-NY-PA only.
Thanks in advance –
Jeff

How thick is your stone, and will the cut surfaces show? That really isn't all that many cuts. If the stone is under 2" thick, no reason you couldn't do this with a dry diamond wheel in an angle grinder. If the stone is over 2" thick and cut faces aren't showing, cut from both sides. That'll get you through at least 4" -- more with a gently tap from the hammer to bust the pre-scored joints of thicker stone.
As for renting such a thing -- I've never seen one.

Everything fits, until you put glue on it.
I don't want the mason cutting freehand. Some of the cuts involve a profile stone base about 3" thick (max.) 6" high and it will need to be cut at 67.5 degrees +/- since it fits into an octagon. Those 'miter' cuts will show.
There are 2" panels as well, but some of those cuts are difficult, like taking a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" triangular section off one corner, again at 67.5 degrees for a mitre.
I may be able to take the pieces off site to be cut, but would prefer to have him cut on-site if possible.
