I will have to split a large number of massive sandstone slabs; think 6’x6’x1′ . I don’t want to demolish them, just get them to size I can move with a big tractor and also do some shapeing.
I plan to use a rotary hammer with feather shims and wedges to do the job. I’m wondering what diameter & length to buy.
This stone is about as hard as consolidated limestone but not as brittle. I wore a 14″ abrasive wheel down to 6″ making one test cut 6′ long & 1″ deep.
I will not have access to enough water in the near term to cool a diamond blade.
If you have a problem, don’t just talk do something to set it right.

as many hairs that get split around here stone should be no problem..
if you wish to keep the thichness and only section a dry rated diamond blade would work...
or use the RH with a chisel to score where you want the cut to be..
move the chisel along the score line making the score deepr till the stone cracks along the score line...
for thickness use the dry cut blade and then hand hammer in yer feather wedges.. don't use the rh.. the vibrations from the RH will expose fault lines in the stone and the they may not split where yo want...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
