I was looking at replacing my current storm door with a new Larson roll away screen unit that runs about $280.00 at my local “Blowes”. To my suprise they only stock 81″ models. My RO is about 84″ tall and Larson makes an 85″ model that is special order. I was flabergasted to learn that this would set me back $460.00. For that much of a difference I was wondering if anyone has a technique for perhaps extending the 81″ model. I was thinking there may be some way to add an extra long toe kick at the bottom of the door. I thought too about perhaps building out the jamb but that would probably look funky. Anybody have any ideas or do I just need to bite the bullet?

or go shopping. There are other rollaway sreens and there are other Larsen retailers.
The big box stores do not do special orders well.

Point taken. I'm curious though after talking with Lowes and getting the custom price they also said it would take 6 weeks to get the door. Larsons web site notes the 36 x 85 size so I assume it can't be that custom. However, six weeks makes me think that the manuf. only produces these on an as needed basis. Anybody out there in the know?
only produces these on an as needed basis. More likely that Lowes only stocks what they think might sell.I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
Heres another idea;
You gotta have a storm door ?
gotta have it
Ive got two on a rent house Im going to in a few minutes to take one off as the hinge broke and Ive found I cant replace the hinge. Ive decided to build a screen door as its off a carport and doesnt need to be weather proof.
I was shocked to find I couldnt replace the hinge . Its 7 years old . Mebbe Im a cheappo but I dont feel like being out that expense. I can repair a screen door and have no problem with that .
