Strapping on the ceiling. How do I avoid piercing my membrane?

I am putting Intello on the walls and ceiling. I had hoped to have 5/8 drywall everywhere for general sound deadening and fire resistance. I have installed a service channel on the wall with 2x3s, and I had planned to use some strapping on the ceiling at 16 oc. My concern is with 5/8″ of drywall and typical 1x material at 3/4″, the screw would be poking into my hard earned air barrier. Am I just making something out of nothing?
If it is something, as I think, to worry about, what can I use for a fill 1″ thickness to protect the membrane?
Thanks
Tom

I think it smart to avoid screw point holes in your expensive vapor control films.
2x3 might be a better choice than strapping of half the thickness.
Threads that extend past the wood do nothing to hold the drywall anyway.
Could you use an adhesive (i.e. DAP Dynagrip Drywall) and shorter drywall screws?
5/8 + 3/4 = 11/8 = 1-3/8" so you should have a little buffer if you're using 1-1/4" drywall screws unless you overdrive them. Or am I missing something?
That said, I just did something similar. Strapping over membrain smart vapor barrier on the walls. 1/2 drywall, 1" drywall screws, and OSI F38 adhesive (which I trust more than other brands). If you use metal channel instead of wood strapping, you should be able to use as short a screw as you want so long as the untapered part of the screw goes through the metal.
