I have two posts holding up my porch that look rather flimsy and plain. Would sistering them with 2x and then rapping with a decorative wood add structual support to them?

It couldn't hurt! Seriously, 'tho, a little more info, or a picture, or a sketch, would be helpful. What are they made out of? How are they anchored? How are they attached to the porch beam? Are they deflecting? Sinking?

OK,I have some similar questions, so I am going to jump in on this discussion.
I have been called in to help a friend replace some structural posts on his porch. I have attached two photos. The old post pictures are the ones he has lived with the past 4 years, they are probably older. Not attached a base or header. Fell out with a little lift of the roof. Second picture are the new post design he came up with. Laminated and nailed 3 2x6's. They run about 8-10 feet apart. At the base he is using a synthetic decking board. And top, used 2x6 cut to span the header. Not sure if I like this design. Currently new posts are not yet attached. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
