I did a stupid thing today. While getting soom air tools ready I placed the roll of teflon tape for the fittings on top of my compressor (Craftsman 2-stage twin V) that I keep in my shop. The compressor stared to cycle and before I noticed, the in air intake into the pump sucked the tape into the pump. When I realized what happened, I immeadiately unplugged the comperssor and I haventt turned it on again.
Anyone out there know what I’m in for with this? Do I need to rebuild the pump? If it runs OK can I just forget about it?
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the reply
I can't be sure how much went in. I didn't think anything was happening when it was going in. I coudn't tell that the spool was spinning because it was so quick. It probably sucked in a half a roll.
I'll try it and see if it runs OK and then I'll worry.
Thanks again.
The biggest danger is that it will plug up a valve and you won't have any compression. Some lesser danger that it could plug the compression release mechanism or the pressure switch. So watch it, and shut it off right away if the unit won't start or won't shut off.
And you might want to consider a screen on the air intake.
Just remove the sucked intape off your filter.
No filter? Time to add one, huh?
Even t;h;e cheapie sears comps have a piece of felt. If not, grit in the air will do more harm than a piece of
tfe tape will ever do.
It has a filter - sort of
I tried pulling it out but it just stretched and snapped. The "filter" looks like a piece of carpet pad and the tape just went around it. I have since called a place that repairs only compressors. The guy there said to turn it on and if it stops appropriately its fine. No harm. If it doesn't stop, the valve would need a little work. He said all this after he laughed a while;)
My biggest issue was that I didn't want to damage it further and he assured me it would not. "If it runs, it runs" he said
I have since installed a small wire mesh screen to keep the bigger stuff (and tape!) out.
Thanks again to everyone.

...but if tape can get around your "filter" then it really isn't filtering anything is it?
The mesh is an okay addition but it doesn't solve the problem that your filter isn't doing much good.
