Hi,
I been asked to install subflooring on a concrete basement slab. The reason is to keep the finish floor dry and … dry in case of water seepage. The walls have been dry-lock and they hope the water problem is solved. Anyway, they want a “raised” floor just in case. I’m thinking of using 5/4 ( I think it’s 5/4) pressure treated decking to build a frame. I think they are 5 1/4 wide. Glue and nailed down. Then lay 1/2 or 3/4 plywood down.
I would appreciate any comments. Should the concrete be prepped in some way. What about moisture, mold …. Also, is it a good idea to cover the slab this way ??? Once covered, there will practically no air flow. Is this a problem.
Thanks

Need to protect against liquid water and water vapor. Most paint-on waterproofing does not keep out water vapor . (check with manufacturer)
Do not put a vapor barrier on top of non-treated ply, because it will trap the vapor and start to rot the ply.
Also remember that any pressure-treated wood must have the cut ends treated to keep the system rot-proof.
I have used a system where I put Zypex on the concrete floor to keep liqid water out and 6 mil. poly on top of the Zypex to keep water vapor out. After that you can do what you want.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for Zypex. I haven't seen it in Home Depot or Lowe's.
One of the great advantages of Zypex is that the slab doesn't need to be dry in order to apply it.

Have you thought about DRI-core panels? Check out their website:

A little pricey, but easy to install, and they keep the water underneath, floor dry above.
Thanks, I think I saw this in Home Depot. At least something like it anyway. yes, i think it was a bit pricey. looks like good stuff though.
