At the risk of asking a dumb question…
I’m trying to cut a simple curve into the ends of some new 4×6 beams that are fixed in place. My Bosch jigsaw only holds a blade that is 4 1/2″ long, not long enough to get through the 4″ side of the beam. Bosch only makes one longer blade, but it is for rough cuts, and I don’t want to tear up the wood- I want a nice, clean cut.
Suggestions?

Make a template out of plywood and mark it on both sides. Get some good sawzall blades that are long and have somebody guide the end of the blade from the back edge with a crescent wrench while you guide it with the sawzall.
Then clean up the cut with one of these:

A template and pattern cutting bit and router work well too, to clean it up after roughing it out.ML
Pattern bit and a router, ditto.
Roughing the shape; interior of a circle, multiple passes/ increasing depth w/ router. You'd need a plunge cutter, and a pattern with a collar to do that one. Exterior of a circle, multiple passes with a circular saw, leaving enough for a clean pass with the router.

Rent a portable bandsaw ... clean up with oscillating spindle sander.

Use the monster jigsaw blade, but cut wayy proud of the line.
Clean up with 36g in your belt sander.
On a recent TOH in Austin, the carps did something similar with just a belt sander.
I used the Bosch 6" blade on mine and got nice clean cuts. Just go slow and don't force it

Yep, get the long blade for your jigsaw. Rough is a relative term and it won't take much to smooth out the cut.

A band saw is probably the best 'right way'. Got a friend? Got a sixpack? Go 'chat'
