Got a client wanting a 14′ by 21′ sunroom addition. This may be known as an all seasons room in other parts of the country. Roof will be lean-to style, most likely standing seam metal. Other than that, I’m open for ideas. House is vinyl but, I’d like to use something else on this room.
Anyone got any pictures of exterior details they would be willing to share.
Dug, ……. fishing for ideas

If the rest of the house is vinyl I'd use vinyl on the room.
One of my goals when designing and building an addition is to make it look like it was always part of the structure instead of an after thought. I also don't like shed roof much myself but occasionally they are necessary when windows or other factors are in the way.
What other types of details are you looking to incorporate, what are the clients major desires for the room, how will they use it, do they entertain a lot, how do they plan to furnish it?
Adding almost 300 sqft can tax the existing HVAC system and if you put a large area of windows in the room it could put a great demand on the system, you might want to have your HVAC guy run a few calculations for you.
Cag,
The lean-to or shed roof is neccesary because of windows; no other real options there. I'm not crazy bout this either.
As for exterior options, I am tossing around some ideas for using exterior mdf with some applied moulding below the windows.
This house is not the ideal candidate for a sunroom like this, and being that a shed roof is my only option, I think its gonna look added on no matter what I do. The idea was to make it contrast instead of trying to blend it in. Does that make sense?
There will be about 10 windows and two full-lite doors. The doors need to be there, but the number of windows is flexible at this point.
It will be built on a slab ( common here ). Homeowner is leaning towards beadboard on the walls and Ac ply on the ceiling; i.e. no sheetrock.
H.O. wants to tile the floors himself.
Don't really know what his intended use of the room is.
H.O. has his own HVAC guy whom I also know and trust so he will be handling this. I'm o.k.with this arrangement.
"Don't really know what his intended use of the room is."The first three things I want to know when designing are what the rest of the house looks like, how this will be used, and what the budget is.AC ply on ceiling implies cheap on the budget to e.Other than that, with no look at the existing and no clue other than the name of the room, it is almost impossible to advise...

If he had the budget he would be asking a "designer" to do this and not a dumb carpenter(me). lol
Pictures man pictures, I need pictures. I can turn anything into a chinese bluprint.lol
dug.... not a designer yet, but I try to learn something new everyday
I don't know how much more beadboard is than plywood, but I'd try to convince the HO to use beadboard on the ceiling too. (Or maybe only on the ceiling and something else on the walls. If the sun can penetrate deep enough to hit the walls, something cementitious would hold the heat and release it gradually--maybe make the sunroom habitable for longer into the fall and earlier in the spring.) If he wants cheaper, he could also use patterned concrete on the floor instead of tile.
I put a similar sized four season room on a house about a year ago. Same type of deal it seems you're talking about. Ten windows, french door, six skylights, direct vent fireplace. I'll see if I can find some pictures around here...I took plenty. This house also has vinyl siding and I wanted to make the addition similar to the rest of the house, but stand out just a little bit. What I did to "dress" it up a little bit was use some cedar trim...1x6 around the windows, 1x6 sub rakes...1x10 frieze boards...1x6 corner boards. The rest of the house has roughly 1x2 around the windows and vinyl corners. It blends nicely but stands out just a bit.I also put a kind of 'catwalk' of a deck around two of the three sides of the addition, just big enough for a BBQ and small table with 4 chairs.
I'd like to see pictures if you got em. Thanks
Here are three pictures of the four season room...I thought I had more pictures that showed the four season room in relation to the rest of the house but I couldn't find them. Anyway, the goal was to create something that stood out a bit from the rest of the house without looking like...well...and addition was just stuck there.I hope file size is not an issue. I resized to 640x480 (about 280KB - 300KB), someone can let me know for future reference if they should be smaller.

Of course they want cheap and nice. Maybe they would like a sun patio made up from standard sliding glass doors. In my area, I can pick up 5 fiberglass french doors for $2500 or less for vinyl or aluminum.
