Hi,
I’m looking for reasonable sources for a few items near Boston, MA. (Somerville to be exact).
1) about 4 cu. yards of washed 1″ gravel for drainage ditch and to back up a retaining wall (delivered)
2) about 4 cu. yards of topsoil (delivered)
3) the individual “pickets” for a picket or stockade style fence, preferably in something rot-resistant like eastern white cedar.
Home Depot will sell me complete sections of fence, but my project would be better suited to building the sections myself due to a sloped lot and pre-existing posts that don’t match 8′ spacing.
HD will also sell me pallet loads of their bags of topsoil and gravel, but I’d rather not go that route. I think I should be able to do better on price, but worried that small order size might drive up cost.
Anyone have any ideas? I think I’ll copy the post on the Fine Gardening site.
Thanks.
Alec

Look in the yellow pages under landscape materials or sand & gravel.
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
for the fence, try Steritt's Lumber in Watertown.
