And those sort of shows. I am kinda hooked on Surprise by Design, by I think the duo is love with some pretty wacky colors as of late. Now I am not advocating that I would follow a single re-do that I have seen, but it is fun to see how their minds work.
Robert is really funny.
What are you favorites?

Divine Design with Candace whatshername. I love her designs and think they are truly divine. Though with her propensity to use silk, I'm guessing I can't afford her.
Dont think that show is available here.
Silk...lol, not in this house, unless I am wearing it. Come to think of it, I own no silk."Whiskey for my men, and beer for my horses"Willy Nelson and Toby Keith
I love ALL of these types of shows. Especially Devine Design.
I keep waiting for them to come to my house, but they haven't shown up yet. I hope they aren't lost...
lol! I NEVER said I would let them in my house...lol...

I was on a house tour in a gorgeous old section of Atlanta called Inman Park and immediately upon entering the house, I asked one of the volunteers, "Was this house on TV?" I felt as if I had been there before. It was one of the Surprise By Design houses. It was so cool to see that the homeowners had loved what had been done and kept it the way the designers had done it.
I am sure that it helped that the wife had organized it and the husband had been the one surprised! LOL.
I remember an Atlanta house. Were the walls red in the living area? Oops, no, that was the wife that was surprised.

For a while Atlanta was the city to use for all of the shows, Trading Spaces, Design for a Dime, Surprise by Design etc. etc.
This was a tiny little bungalow where Rebecca designed a backyard BBQ party area in their back patio that had been a bit neglected. It turned out very vibrant and quite beautiful.
So far, everthing I have seen has certainly been vibrant. Especially their clothes.

They seem to be on a mission to cure people of their fear of color.
I love it.
hehe, I am NOT afraid of color, but I am afraid of color that can glow in the dark! lol....."Whiskey for my men, and beer for my horses"Willy Nelson and Toby Keith
lol! Yes, they can get extreme sometimes. But it is fun to see it done because most people love their beige. :)
I find their use of color very refreshing. I don't mind some glow in the dark. ;-)
Seriously - this is the best of the designing shows so far. Fun!"So beautifully arranged on the plate - you know someone's fingers have been all over it."Julia Child
Well now, that's quite a compliment Wolvie, considering I have not seen all of them. So, I can quit looking for others?
;-)
I must admit, I really like Robert and I understand where he is coming from when he explains his choices. His clothes however are another matter. He looked like Mr. Clean the other day."Whiskey for my men, and beer for my horses"Willy Nelson and Toby Keith
Last I looked prices on silk were really, really affordable. At least, for sewing fabrics.
The various "surprise" shows, and the trading spaces type shows leave me terribly cold. I just have a horrendous fear of what people would do to the place I live in! I'm too much of a control freak in this case! I learned a lot about design from Lynette Jennings shows, although I haven't seen her on TV in quite a while."Our whole American way of life is a great war of ideas, and librarians are the arms dealers selling weapons to both sides."-James Quinn
I think 'affordable' is in the eye of the beholder. All of my window treatments were made from fabric I picked up at the $2 Fabric Store (that's its name, honest). Although they cost slightly more than that, they were pretty affordable. I think I've always had to pay more for the muslin lining than for the show fabri. Only downside of shopping there is they never have enough for what I planned and I need to alter my plans to go with the fabric that I like. But I think silk is still out of my range.
As for surpises, I'm not sure if there is a surprise in 'Divine Design' or not. You don't see the homeowners between the beginning and the end, and they don't show you getting her designs approved, though she does full renderings for every show I've seen. If you look at the renderings there is a real lack of surprise in the end result - they are always very accurate. The designs I've seen are always exquisite and in keeping with any views the owners expressed at the start. With a 2 year old and working full time, I still have plenty of fingers left to count the number of episodes I've seen, so take my analysis with a grain of salt.
