Can anyone tell me how I make sure that I am getting the correct toilet for my spare bathroom? It is an older unit that is in need of changing but before I tear it out I would like to have a new one to replace it right away.
How do I measure the correct distance to the floor opening so the it will fit properly since this is a SMALL bathroom? Not alot of room for error so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Toilet specs are pretty standard these day, with exceptions of course.
Code requres they be certain distances for teh walls, etc, so that limits their sizes. And the rough in is most often 12" from the back wall, IIRC.
I use mostly Kohlers and get all dimensions online. They hae many models, and often different versions of the same model, so take a look and I am sure you can find the spec and drawings that will help you plan.
Hope that helps

What you want to do is to measure from the backwall to the centerline of the flange. That is the roundin dimension.
If the toilet only has 2 bolts they are on the centerline of the flang.
12" is most common, but 10" is available from plumbing supply house.
There where also 14" in the past and some with 4 hold down bolts. If you have one or the other of those condtions them you need to do some more research.
What is the best wax ring to use?
One with the rubber reinforcement or plain wax?

Like Bill said 12" is standard 10" & 14" are available
Wax rings I like to use are deep seal variety (wax ring with plastic horn)
Do you know of a place to get a 10" in KC locally? I had the plumber looking for one not that long ago and he said everyone was telling him min. 2 week delivery time, which wouldn't make sence if somewhere in KC had them...
anyway, we moved the rough in
When I checked on one about a year or 2 ago Winnelson supply in Blue Springs had them and I think in stock. End up not needing it.Now that store burned down. But there are others in the area including on in Larrytown and KC, KShttp://www.winholesale.com/Winnelson/location.htmAnd between them and Ferguson, and Reeves-Weiman and a couple of other supply houses I would think that there was at least one in the area.
