I built a backyard workshop this winter and now that it’s in the mid 80’s, the kraft paper on the roof insulation is steamy damp (black) in places. The rafters are 2×6’s and since there is no ceiling, I figured I could put the insulation at the roof. If it were covered with drywall, maybe I wouldn’t be aware of it unless the moisture got so bad it soaked right through. I just added plenty of soffit vents but I don’t have any roof vents, again, no ceiling to trap heat. Is there some way to vent this moisture or is it normal for the vapor barriers to get damp and dry out throughout the day.

Where are you located (climatewise)? What is the construction of the shop like (slab on grade? suspended floor on piers? dirt floor? Are you sturing wood in the shop (firewood or green lumber)?

Steve, I'm in Atlanta. Worries me that we haven't even had much heat or humidity yet. The building is on piers, floor is about 1 to 1.5 ft. above ground. Walls, floor and ceiling are insulated. Not storing any wood to speak of, just some dry hardwood.
