Synthetic Roof Underlayments: Durable in ice and snow?
I’m getting ready to let a contract to replace a 4000-sf roof. Changing from cedar shakes to a metal roof.
I hope to complete it this fall, but I am afraid winter is fast approaching and know that 30-lb felt will not work well through a winter. I read the article on syntheticlatest roof underlayments in the current issue of FHB.
Any idea on how well they would hold up over the winter, if we pulled of the shakes, got the underlayment installed, and then had to wait until spring to do the intallation of the metal roof?

Yes.
I had RTGII on for five months of a winter before shingling. No trouble.
My neighbor has had RTGII on for a year and a half in the house he lives in. I doubt it is still 100% though.
I had Titanium UDL on for months as i walked back and forth on it in boots, dragging lumber... generally not being nice. Never had a problem with it.
I would recommend getting off the pot and getting the roof done. That's a job you don't want problems with and you never know what winter will bring.
RoofGardII no problem
Spent almost 2 years on my place in Utah. Lots of snow and no problems.
