I just picked up the Tajima chalk line, and of course they recommended their “Ultra-fine) chalk for use in it. When I got the chalk, I squirted a bit on some paper, and then squirted a bit of my Irwin chalk next to it. In this highly scientific fashion, I detected 1 difference…the shades of blue were a bit different.
Since no one remotely near me carries Tajima chalk, and I’m guessing it’s more expensive, is it worth it? Has anyone used both, or done a better test than my eyeball?
Thanks, as always.

I just bought 2 Tajima chalk lines. I filled one with Tajima chalk and the other with Irwin chalk. It seems to me that the Tajima works better. It is a creisper line and it has to be reeled in to be refilled less. It may be better formulated for the nylon line vs. the cotton line in most other chalk lines.
I agree about getting a crisper line with the Tajima chalk. I didn't think there'd be much of a difference, but I just had to snap a bunch of lines across corrugated metal and I got a super crisp line both at the peaks and in the valleys.
I have't compared it side to side with the regular irwin stuff, but it also seems like there's less flying around in the air when unreeling and snapping.
BTW I just gotta say I'm digging my Tajima reel. After getting tired of every one of my tool bags being filled with various chalk from my leaky old reel, I'm feeling pretty happy now.
