Good Morning,
I am just about to rebuild my exterior cellar stairs using PT lumber. The walls are cement block.
Can I use Tapcon screws to attach the horses to the walls? If not what should I use?
Thanks, TWG

horses? I wrap the lead around a post....
no seriously. I'm assuming you mean the stringers. I would'nt use tapcons for that. its just as easy to use threaded anchor bolts which are much stronger
Thanks. I suspect others' will feel the same way. I am just so lazy.
I always called them stringers also but a construction friend kept insisting I was referring to horses. I'm going back to using stringers.
If the stringers are pressure treated, whatever you use for fasteners should probably be stainless steel. PT corrodes steel fast. (Aluminum too.)
I have installed PT stringers many times with tapcons, never a problem!
ACQ or CCA PT?
both
Well, after further discussion with others, I did use 1/4 x 2 3/4 Tapcons for the stringers and the face board(?) (board that tops of stringers sit it).
Tapcons are specified for PT wood and these stringers are rock solid. I was able to hit the solid part of each block every time.
