the markings are for laying out framing members such as joists at 19.2″ centers. My company tried a spec using this spacing, needless to say the floor was like a trampoline. we ended up doubling every joist to take the bounce out of the floor.

the marks that you are talking about are used mainly when you are using truss joists to joist your floor. That is the most common spacing on these engineered joists. Hope this will help you...ps if you use this spacing use 3/4 sheeting or better.

its for engn flor joist like silent floor usually at 19 and 3/16
*19.2*5=96 which basically means adding 1 joist per 8 ft to a 2 foot layout but not going to a 16 inch layout

I remember this being brought up before, but I can't find the thread. What are the small diamond marks on my tape measure at 19 3/16 increments?
Thanks,
Ken
*ken, that's (19.2 inches) , another common spacing for framing members (12inch...16inch....19.2 inch....24inch ) yada, yadathere's another one too, ( 13.7 inches), but it's not marked on your tape....you will find these in a lot of span tables for sizing joists and rafters..
