Tapersawn Shingle/Shake Exposure Layout
Hello Folks,
I have a little bit of a dilemna..
We just installed some furring strips (lats) for a new tapersawn shingle/shake at a five inch exposure. Complete roof is not done. I know realize that 5″ exposure is not ideal for this shingle. Roof is mainly a 12 pitch and I live in CT. I was wondering if given the 5 inch spacing on the lat’s how can I calculate if other exposures will work on that layout (ie, either 5 1/2 or 7 1/2).
Thanks for the help.
Devin

btw the lat's are 1x4's - thanks
you can't go to 7 1/2 unless you are working with a 24" shingle
normal exposure on a roof for 18" taperswn ( thick butt ) is 5 1/2
we use a 1 x 6 as our spacer board
since you already put your skip sheathing on at 5 " that is the spacing you have to stick with... rip a 1x6 to 5" and go to town
that's what I thought but I figured I would ask...thanks for the reply.
