The local store has on display metal paint roller trays with a Teflon coating which supposedly makes cleanup easier. I don’t really need another tray, but imagine a benefit to it. Has anyone tried these trays? Is it worth spending $6?

Depends on if you're planning to cook something in it ;)
I think the idea behing those teflon-coated paint trays is that you wait for the paint to dry and then peel if off. That means that you can't use that tray for a day or 2. And so, if you're painting more than 1 color, you need a tray for each color.
I have 6 paint trays. Each gets a $1.00 liner. It costs me $6.00 to paint 6 different colors (and I have had all 6 in use at one time). I'm not about to buy 6 teflon coated trays even if they do work (which I doubt).
Half the time you can peel the dried paint off the $1 liners.

Just spray the tray with a light coat of wd-40 when it is dry and you don't need a liner.

It should be fine. When I paint or tape drywall I have a can of WD-40 around to spray tools after I clean them.
It helps a little. I like my tools to be clean the next time I pick them up.
I spray the pan. I spray my brush where the bristles enter the furrel. sp?
I spray inside the ends of my roller. I helps to keep the paint from sticking a little bit.
for me. One of the main ways to keep paint and drywall mud from building up on tools is to stay at the job until it is done. Or until part of it is done. It keeps the paint or mud wet. Then i clean it thoroughly.
Setting a brush, roller, or drywall pan down so you can come back later isn't a good idea. "There are three kinds of men: The one that learns by reading, the few who learn by observation and the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."Will Rogers

On certain tools like a roller pan I don't spray so much on that it pools and gets into the paint.
A lot of the time when I pick up the pan I'll wipe the excess WD-40 out so there is just a thin film.
I don't use so much that it gets in the paint. Wipping it dwon prevents that.
Maybe there is another product that would dry but WD-40 is around so that's what I use.
If I see the teflon pan or teflon coated rollers I'll give it a try if I'm in a spending mood.
I'm all for trying new stuff if it works.
I don't like pan liners of any kind.

It would be interesting to use TDL (Teflon Dry Lube) by PB, or another spray telfon to make your own teflon-lined paint tray.
use a plastic trash bag that fits the paint tray fairly well...

+1 in the fridge.
I've used em and like em. They are more convenient than liners but the Teflon has a fairly short life span. What I really like are the rollers (forget who makes them, Sherline maybe?) that have a Teflon coating... I thought it was a gimmick but I swear they transfer the paint better, and give you better coverage.

i think there worth the extra 3.00. they clean up really easy while the paints still wet. if dry just peel it off.
the liners are ok too.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.
