Any HVAC experts out there?
I’m wondering if there exists a widely compatible thermostat unit which takes both relative humidity and temperature in account for cycling the AC unit. I do know about complete systems (or at least partial systems, the cost of which in any case exceeds my target) that use a variable fan speed in the inside unit in order to effect a greater reduction in air moisture if the relative humidity exceeds a certain point. Lennox makes such a system, the idea of which, if I’m not mistaken, is to reduce humidity without causing the temperature to drop too far below the setpoint.
I’m not looking for anything as elaborate as that. Instead, I’d just like to be able to have my system cycle on automatically when the outside temperature drops, thereby causing the inside temperature to fall below the setpoint, but the inside humidity is high – causing the house to be uncomfortable. Conversely, when it’s 110 out, I’d like to have my temperature setpoint creep upwards a little bit as long as the humidity level inside is kept down. I don’t want to have to install expensive equipment – I’d like to just plug in a new wall controller to my existing 24VDC line and have it run the existing hardware.
Does such a product exist? In your opinion, is this a sensible idea? Sure, I can do all this manually, but I’m doing that now and it’s no fun. I’ve talked to my local HVAC guy and he hasn’t heard of any product quite like I’m describing.
Just a thought induced by the relatively cool nights we’ve been having in Texas recently.
thanks
