   "recommend a surface"?

   Does he actually play tennis? Seems like the surface decision would be his.

   The surface decision is his, he wants a surface that "gives" with the the least amount of neccasary maintanance. I don't know the different required upkeep between clay , hartru, or any other options. Reseaching.

   my in laws have tennis court in their back yard.  Asphalt.  DO NOT do an asphalt court.  granted it's 20+ yrs old.  buty I've been married 9 yrs and have never played on it.  cept to chase the kids around through the cracks and weeds.

   Keep any tree far away from the court.  inlaws have many.  I'd imagine great attention to sub surface drainage away from the court would be good.  super thick base, in layers. then the top coat of their prefrence.  good luck and offer them an extended 30 day warranty  :)

   we do alot of compaction test for american tennis court, it is really a science the surface has to be completely flat with no bird baths but able to drain water. they put a rubber type asphalt on it. so they can be no cracks at all. It really needs to be done by a tennis court company. one bad bounce and the client be cussing you for years. stay away from it

   I am definatly hiring a tennis court builder. The owner has hired me to oversee it, so I figgure I oughta edjimicate meself a little on it first.
