terminating a central vacuum pipe vent
Any one have any suggestions for terminating a central vacuum pipe that’s vented outside. I thought of trying to use sa 3″ fan vent but the vac pipe is only 2″. I suppose I could rout some slats out of of some 1x but I don’t want to restrict airflow.

Nutone/Broan sells a sidewall boot for terminating
Could you use a 2 inch to 3 inch reducer and then have 3 inch pipe go to the fan vent? Do you even need a vent? How about a 90 degree elbow?
here's the one we use

Why are you venting your vaccuum? Your vaccuumming up a tremendous volume of air that you have allready paid to heat or cool depending on your location. Plus, if you dump all of this conditioned air outside, now you have created a negative pressure environment in your house. The unconditioned air from outside is creaping in every crack and nail hole in you building envelope to equalize the pressure.
I spent a lot of time and money to vent the first central vac I ever did to the outside. Then I thought about the cfm that I was wasting money on. Ever since the waste air has been returned to the building.
I have to disagree with you , the fact that central vac's are vented outside is the main reason I like them
most other vacuum's spew lots of dust right back into the air.
Do the manufacturers specify how to vent? All I've seen are units vented outside
Just my opinion
wooden...one of the advantages ofcentral vac is the option to discharge outside
are you using a hepa filter on your vac ? no...then you're moving a lot of very bad stuff around your house
when you could be dumping it outside
if you are that worried about losing some cfms , aren't you worried about air quality ?Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
One house has had the vac dumping in the basement for 3 and a half years of everyday use. No excessive dust, or even noticable dust on any hard surfaces. I usually use Nutone 350s or 450s with Nutone bags. I have seen other brands of vacs in other houses that look like dust pigs. I can only speak for my experience.
