We’ve got Hardipanel on our new (and partially complete) addition but I’d like to do something more than paint it. Since the rest of our house is stucco, I’d like to add a stucco texture over the panels to match. This way, I can also cover the joints, etc.
James Hardie’s website doesn’t discuss options other than paint and their tech support didn’t have much to say.
Has anyone added stucco over Hardipanel or similar products? Should I apply mesh and then add 3 coats? Use a primer first? Only do the top two coats?
All thoughts appreciated!

Can't see why you couldn't do this.
Check out Durock's website about their system at http://www.durock.com/system.htm click on Durock Cementitious Board System for specs and products to do this over their board, which I believe is similar to Hardi's.
*We texture over Hardies all the time here. Try their Aussie site
*What d'ya know, Hardie is an Australian company. Interesting, the siding gets 35 years guarantee there, v. 50 years in America.>Founded more than 100 years ago by a Scottish immigrant to Australia, James Hardie has grown into a diversified, worldwide building products company with sales of more than A$1.29 billion annually. >This success story began in 1888, when an enterprising young James Hardie left his family's tannery business in Scotland and immigrated to booming Melbourne, Australia in search of new opportunities. Capitalizing on his experience, he started James Hardie Industries, an importer of oils and animal hide tanning products. >In 1903, the company expanded its growing business by importing a new French product -- "Fibro Cement" building sheet and slate -- promoting its unique ability to resist "fire, frost, acid and ants." [etc., etc.]What do you use for flashing? The only thing I've heard from Hardie is that the cement is corrosive, so one should use "coated aluminum."
