Talk about frustrating….. I have a gas hot water heater. I have been cleaning every single water line in the house, all the faucets. It gets to the point you are in the shower all soaped up then nada, zilch, no water. You can imagine DW’s response! I have been getting white deposits out of the screens, dish washer, washing machine, shower heads, faucets. I was skeered that I was getting calcium deposits from the inside of the copper pipes coming loose and worried I would have to replace the pipes to stop this from happening or figure a way to chemically pickle the pipes. After talking to the gas company and a plumber friend which owns a plumbing store I found out the dip tube inside the water heater is desintigrating. There have been a batch of them which had inferior dip tubes placed in them. The new dip tube cost me $4.50. Whew! DW is now happy!

There was a nation wide call back on dip tubes a few years back. Seems most of the water heater manufacturers all get their dip tubes from the same couple of suppliers. Alot of those HWH were being replaced by the vendors IIRC.
The gas company said I am SOL on a replacement. So I picked up the $4.50 tube.....

Yeah, you must have had one of the last three remaining non-failed dip tubes. (Prior to its failure, that is.)
I only knew that, cause I think I had the 2nd last one.
That is my luck!! I am just glad it was an easy fix.
