I have a two-story foyer in 1995 transitional styled home that I detest. The first reaction that everyone has as they enter my home, through the front door, is to gaze upward toward the acres of drywall that looms overhead. I have contemplated building a walkway from the second floor balcony to a reading nook/landing in front of paladin window that I would also build ( the landing that is). Each of these would have the same rails and balusters that are used on the stairs. <!—-> <!—->
Does any one have any less drastic options and examples of them?

Sounds like a plan. If you have room to lose a couple of inches on each side of the foyer, framing shouldn't be a problem. How big is the foyer? What about hanging a very large chandelier at about 9 ft off the floor, to disrupt the line of sight to the ceiling? Or maybe some exotic mobile.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
why not just build a false ceiling (probably wood) that is held in from all the walls by a foot or two. Maybe about 8-9' up. It would provide "cover" for the foyer and would certainly be cheaper than framing lots of stuff. Or you could just hang a tarp....
MERC.
or roof window, or lattice grid thing, or cool landing thing, or Stan Foster stairs and cool landing thing.
