Hello Breaktimers.
First of all I like to thank the members and the moderators of this forum that allow me to… pimp my EZ.
The first Ez was made out from a door frame and really really work good for me over the years and allow me to feed my family and …buy a Fiat.
Now, this Thing have “take over” my life and I have no time to pimp few other ideas. The D-Mix is one of them that I’m sure many of you guys can use as an additional trade and income.
So, the question here is: How do I pimp the D-mix Live? This technique is so EZ and good that I just can’t take it with me. And I don’t have the time to commercialized it and profit out of this. Any ideas how to go about this?
Thanks guys.

the D-mix? The mixture of Durabond and plaster that was discussed last month? Maybe sell the recipe to the sheetrock industry...that would be EZer. ;)
I'll be trying D-mix soon as I get the chance. Thanks for the tip.

No durabond. Joint compound.
You try to sell an idea to a co? It will cost you more that they will offer after they... get it.
From my previews experience dealing with companies.trying to sell an idea to them is the EZer way to go nuts. you either do it yourself or give it away.
I have no idea, but I would love to learn. please find a way to show us soon... I plan on testing it out on my garage in spring if you are able to teach us :-) I figure the garage is a good place to start.
Maybe you would be able to write an article for Fine Home Building mag. I'm sure others would also like more info on this.
Thanks for sharing

The idea is for you guys to find a way.
Dino,
you could try to go the video route, that and put together some tools that go with the mix as a package..... the EZ Wall Fix.... or something to that effect.
james
James.
That may work. I never thought about the video route.
I like that Idea. Now we need a videographer? Is that right?
We need to find the right job or jobs and a video crew? any producers here?
Thanks James.
Dino,
Sell an article to one of the mags, be sure you have good step by step pics as well as several before/after sets. Maybe you will get an invite to do expenses paid live demos at shows where you can also display/sell the EZ guide system. IMHO, an nice way to pump up the marketing budget and save wear and tear on the FIAT.
I doubt the D mix is patentable as a stand alone product, you'd have to develop a proprietary application system.

I don't want to patent or profit out of this. If I try to patent all the stuff that we come up over the years, I be a poor man for my next 10? lives.
I just want to find a way to pass it over to others who can make a good living out of this. But you give me an idea. I will try to make a video and have it in our web site. This way we can create more traffic in our site ....????
Why not? And we can call it the EZ-SMART tricks of all trades.
Thanks Jim.
I think U might need someone that does marketing and corporate communications for a living ...

Dino, what's happening with the video?
I tried D-Mix myself today. There's definitely a learning curve to it. I used 1 gallon of the green joint compound, about 1 quart of Glidden PVA Primer, and about 12 oz of plaster of Paris. I used the best 3/4" nap wool roller I could get. I first mixed the JC and primer thoroughly, and added the plaster of Paris when I was ready to begin. I had a lot of difficulty getting the D-Mix onto the roller; it just wouldn't stick, and was far stiffer/thicker than anything I'd ever tried rolling. I finally used a cheap 3/8" nap roller, which held the mixture better. I still had problems getting into the corners with the roller, but didn't try using a brush. I found that I couldn't do more than a 3 X 3 section, because it would begin to set up and be difficult to trowel out.
If I try this again, I may omit the plaster of Paris and increase the percentage of primer, although it may be more difficult to smooth out if it's too thin.
Anyone else try D-Mix? Dino, throw me a bone here...
You saw the problem. Your mix was thick.
The official mesuring device is the DD small cup of coffee.
Why you mix-me up with the movie OZ?
Another trick with the lambskin roller. do you wet the roller for 5 minutes?
If not nothing sticks to the lambskin roller.
Sorry. I forget to mention that. I thought that was a general knowledge.
Looks like the step by step video is the only answer.
And guess what? I will do a D-Mix job in CT this wed. And I will shoot a video.
Man.
I just saw that you're from Marlboro NJ.
We have free d-mix classes the first SAT. every month.
Thanks, Dino. Actually, I probably used less than 12 oz of POP. I was tempted to either thin it a little with water or with some more primer, but thought I'd try to get advice from you first. What do you mean, mix you up with the movie OZ?Yes, I'm from Marlboro. You and I emailed each other a few times last year when I bought the EZ-Smart Guide; you even offered to deliver it for me and to show me your house for some molding ideas (which I may still take you up on...). Where are your D-Mix classes held? Thanks again.
I am only kidding.

How is my ez? Any pictures? Or we get the tool and we forget about YCF?
Are you having a demo next Saturday or was it yesterday?
Next Saturday.
You got my number.
What time?
Call me first. Best time is 11.00 AM.
But you can call me any time and stop over during the week.
It will only take few minutes for a Pro.
No pictures yet, YFC. I've used the EZ-Guide mostly for ripping 3/4" plywood in half for my slowly evolving attic floor and to trim small amounts off of the bottom of interior door, as Rasconc did. As a charter member of the measure-twice-cut-once-dammit-start-over club, it has improved my skill level (or sl it seems...).I'll be contacting you about your next class.

Why don't you stop being a smart-#### and just answer my question, or do you not know the answer.
I might be mistaken, but I thought I read somewhere in the Breaktime stipulations that one must have made at least 10 posts on Breaktime to cop an attitude. Keep postin'.

Steve.
That was before the D-Mix. This thing can get to you very fast.
And you help him. Blue is still looking for DD coffee.
Relax.
Dino-Just finished job #4 using D-mix. My clients think I'm some kind of genius. (I give you credit, though).SB
Imagine where I will be without you SB.
Thanks for chipping in with the updates and remind me that I am not crazy.
Good job my friend. I just name you an official Eurekazonian and I will send you a t-short.
Thanks SB.
Okay Dino, That stuff you get at Dunkin Donuts, man, thats not coffee. Find yourself a nice little coffe shop, go for a nice dark roast, maybe a Kona blend. Fer gawds sake man, your a succesful entrepeneur, Live a little!!! (g)
I never drink DD. i like max.House.
your a succesful entrepeneur, Live a little!!!
Oxymoron?
We may need to start having interventions. People are hooked on this stuff (the D-Mix). They're like addicts. They can't get enough!

Ras.
Do you make the slatwalls?
Have not gone into production. Did a test run and it looks fine. I went ahead and made a jig out of some of the ply with some wood dowel pins in one side to set in the previous slot for repeatability. Did not order the router base from you, probably should have. The jig works pretty well as I put a shop vac at the starting end of the slot and the bit throws it right down the slot and the dust is sucked up.
Am really loving EZ with my saw though. I am using a DW 364 and a DW 36 tooth blade. I bought the Freud 40 but saving it for finer work. Did a job last week where had to put a door through what turned out to be double 2x6 wall. made jambs out of 3/4 ply. Measured one side jamb before I shimmed top and had to trim a nothing to less than 3/16 piece off. Guys watching could not believe it.
You Don't need the router system for simple routing work.
You can remove the white antichip edge and you can use the EZ Smart as an edge guide for your router.
But for speed and Ez (secured) routing is good to have. One piece of good plywood today cost more than the whole kit.
Send me some pictures with the Jig.
Thanks Raz.
I agree, but this operation really needs securing in both directions, not just held to the edge. I am afraid if it bounced back a little it would be noticeable. Ez would do it but I think that the jig will be faster and a little easier, do not have to clamp each time but probably will with a quick clamp.
It is just two slabs of 3/4 baltic birch set the diameter of the Hitachi 2 1/4 router base. They are joined at the ends with double layer of 3/4 under, got two 3/8 dowels on one side located to give the desired repeat. Probably going to do about 8 slots per board times probably 30 sheets (just under 1000").
I am doing the slots across the 48" dim as we are hanging the ply vertical. We are going to use thin diamond plate for base and lattice to cover seams. Bought the first router bit from Amazon, Freud bit, ordered two more from Rockler Pro.
Dino did the guy from Catawba Hardwoods ever get in touch about the ply? I have another possible internet seller for the EZ if you are interested. He is moving quite a bit of product, Mikwaukee, Makita, Bosch. I do not know if he would be interested but if you are I will talk to him. Send me an email, I don't know if you still have my cell # but I will send it to you if you are interested.

Thanks Bob.
Here'e acouple of shots. The sheet of ply that the jig is on is a 38" test piece. The actual jig is 50" inside.
Sorry about the one large file and duplication of the last two. Could not figure out how to delete picture.

Nice jig.
Simple and Ez.
Good job.
Thanks. It is just a pretty straightforward garden variety jig but works. One flaw I found is that the router base is not perfectly round. Had to true it up a bit.
I spoke to the guy I mentioned about selling the EZ. He is interested if you want to talk. He is not some basement operation.

The contact is Mark Strickland @828-652-6873. While I was there picking up some electrical supplies I had him look at your site. Said give him a call.
I think I still want to get the router guide and an extra 50" EZ. Have you looked at any kind of cam lock for the smart clamp? One thing that seems to slow me down is the clamp.

Yes, you do need the whole system. And the table that is the center of the system.
About the clamps. we have designed few "one touch clamps" for the EZ.
But the smart clamps are very versatile and they become more than just clamps.
Use 4 and the guide becomes a table with 4 legs. No need for saw horses.
low profile with large clamping capacity.
Minimum clamping width is 1" with the included clamps and down to zero with the upgrade to Smart Clamping system.
They rotate and stay on the guide rail while moving the guide around.
They work nice with the smart table kit. And you can position the clamps any where under the table kit.
There is to many good features to give up for another type of clamp.
But if you need the more speed, we have now a non skid tape that you can use on the antichip edge and you don't have to use any clamps. (some times)
Thanks for all the help Bob.
Oh yes. Tomorrow after 5 years out from construction I am working again.
Ok. Only for a day but t will be nice not to thing about selling for a day.
Pictures for Dino. These are doors and drawers salvaged from a demo. The boxes/shelves and trimming were all done with the EZ router & saw guide.
Thanks,
Mark

That is very impressive. I've got to try that stuff. I have a couple of upcoming projects where I may utilize it.

Now we're talking.
good luck.
Try a search, it is a system brought to us by "Our Carpenter Friend", Dino (YCFriend). Mix joint compound with pva drywall primer/sealer and plaster of Paris. Roll it on with roller to skim whole area if you want. His concept allows oneday finishing that is pretty much level 5 finish (like plaster).
It has been beaten to death here. I have not had a large enough task to try it yet but plan to.
Dino is the father of invention of the EZ Smart cutting system, which is pretty darned awesome (just like Dino).

Thanks,
DIscovered the search feature just after I posted my reply to the other guy.
Go back and reread Dino's recipie, you put too much POP. That would explain the rapid setup time.
