SS trim screws
predrilled
I've predrilled and used siding nails (ringshank, stainless, 3") haven't been called back. haven't seen it in 5 years either. trim screws sound good to as previous post suggested.

Another vote for pre-drill & ss screw.
IPE is something that's hit & miss with nails---- sometimes it splits sometimes it don't.
If you don't want to see it at all you can counter bore & install an IPE plug in the hole to cover the screw.
