Howzis????? as in a contender for the shortest thread?
It was there when I wrote it. Let's try again.
And if this cannot be seen, go here to see it https://xmradio.metrononline.com/xm/main.aspx
Joblite radio???? I don' t have that nice of equipment in my shop. And barely better in the house. Hummmm.....Maybe I could go upscale and.....Nah!!!!!
Still can't be seen...
But...I have the Bosch box, and it hs inputs, so......
I have sirius Satelite radio, which I then made a removable attachment for and now listen to satelite radio all day through my box.
What a releif over the pablum tht is commercial radio. Worth every penny. Lots of ways to waste money..but I know lot's of guys who spend about 50 bucks every week on coffee and donuts and such....at least mine is a one time expense!
I'll snap a pic of the setup MondayJake Gulick

So all told what kind of $damage$ are we talking? I can here my future and it doesn't have commercials in it. Wow would that be nice.
It only makes sense if you are thinking about a portable MP3 player (like an Apple I-Pod) but don't own one yet.
Like me.
The XM thing is $350, priced about like an I-Pod, but then on top of that you commit to paying $9.99 every month for the XM subscription.
It is like cable TV for your ears. News, sports, all talk, weather, virtually any music genre you can think of, and no commercials.
No commercials sounds great but I'm just not up with you guys in the yuppie crowd. $350 for the unit, then I assume you have to pay a subscription fee for the XM - no thanks. I've got the new DW boom box and it serves my purposes, and on days of painting and such, it's loud enough to drownd out all possibilities of brain activity... ;-)
BTW - It seems that when I was a kid popular music on FM was the (relatively) new thing, and it was touted as having much fewer commercials... That didn't last. Then, in the 70s, there was something called MTV, this thing where they actually played music videos (not a bunch of trash programing and guys "talkin to da beat"). What I see happening with XM, is that they start to bring the cost to the end user down to more of a commodity level - along the way, they start slipping in a few commercials, and, then, maybe 10 to 15 years down the line - it's the same old crap. Matt
Early '80s,cable was born. I jumped on it...commercial-free TV was it's selling point at the time. Not sure if XM has anything to do with it,but here lately radio stations are bragging 'how few commercials' they play.
But back to the subject...I have the Milwaukee radio. Have heard nothing good about the expensive Bosch.
I didn't do it....the buck does NOT stop here.
>>maybe 10 to 15 years down the line - it's the same old crap.<<
Wanna bet it's less than 10?
VIVA SANCHO RON!
I have XM myself, and "no commercials" is a bit of a stretch. ALL of the talk/news/sports stations have just as many commercials as FM. I still love mine though.
Hers my setup-
Check the next post, i forgot to resize...
As for cost, as I recall there are two ways to do it, pay up front for a lifetime subscription, or do the monthly thing.
And the equipment costs were far less than $350 as I recall. More like $100 plus.
Check out the respective web sites for programming and cost differences.
As to commercials, I listen to Sirrius, and I have NEVER heard any commercial except for a 15 second blurb about another Sirius stream.
Tons of streams, great diversity of playlists, no distortion if you can get the signal, and intelligent DJs.....priceless.!

Nice, Jake.
So, is that Sirrius receiver transportable to your car or truck, i.e., does the module plug right into your vehicle's sound system the way it pipes into your Bosch boombox?
The receiver sits in a cradel that I velcroed to the silver panel I made that clips in the Bosch frame. I take the audio out fron the Sirius and put it in the AUX input on the Bosch. I wind the "dish" cord around the rcvr, and the AC power supply plugs into the Bosch power outlets. Simple.
At the end of the day, I grab the receiver, and plug it into the module I got for the truck, which included a dish (magnetic) for the roof, and a lighter plug for power. I was lazy, and decided to just use the FM broadcast mode, so the signal goes to the stock radio, and I just tune to one of 4 available frequencies. If I had a higher end system I could have used the wired output for better audio quality.
On weekends, I pop the silver base off the Bosch, and plug it into my home stereo. Jake Gulick

Ahh Ok I'll get that door cased just a minute, last cut from Southbound and I'll get right on it.
Are you saying this is an internet audio feed?
Matt
It is satellite radio we are talking about. The two current networks (both subscription at maybe $10 per month) are XM and Sirrius.
Check it out at a place like Best Buy or Circuit City.
OK - I knew about XM but had not heard of Sirrius.
How do I know this isn't one of those subliminal mind control gadgets that big brother is using.... time to get out the tinfoil helmet ;-)
Matt
It's mind control if you sign on with Sirrius. They will be broadcasting Howard Stern sometime this year or next.
Can't say about XM. Sure do like it in my friend's SUV, though.
The audio is a digital stream bounced off a satelite, in Sirius's case, somewhere in geosynchronus orbit over, I think, South Dakota.
I would go to the respective websites, and you can listen to the service for free as a three day trial.Jake Gulick

Gene,
Are you talking about the XM2GO unit? My son got one for Christmas and we had to return it already. Seems there ae some problems with them that aren't worked out just yet. XM is sending us a new one in two to three weeks.
I have an XM in my truck plus I have the XM/CD/Radio portable unit. Only way to go!
Gene, I'm pretty finicky about what type of radio will be playing on any jobsite I work on. I really don't care what station is playing, but I just don't want to hear the station drifting off and playing that gargled halfon halfoff scratchy stuff. I also don't want to listen to cheap, nasty, tingy, rattly, garbage speakers.
When those sounds start wafting over the jobsite, I give fair warning....I'm heading over to the radio and it aint gonna be pretty.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!
Warning! Be cautious when taking any framing advice from me. There are some in here who think I'm a hackmeister...they might be right! Of course, they might be wrong too!
