I have been building a house all winter and we are getting to the stage were we are thinking about siding. The siding is pre-painted pine1x8 shiplap , it will be applied vertically. there are two walls 55′ long by 20′ high the gable end walls are 35’wide by 55′ to the peak. Needless to say this is a lot of siding, there are also 48 windows to install and work around. What if at all is the right nailgun to use in the installation of this siding. I see guns in Amazon that say there for siding, but wood? or are they used for Hardy board siding. Our customer is really great but a serious fuss so we want to give him the best job with the least damage to the wood. Any help in this matter would be great. Rick.

I always hand nail wooden siding , I have much more control over the nail that way. If I were to use a nail gun , I know that at least some of the nail heads would be sitting below the face of the siding, this allows moisture and all it's problems to take hold.In a paint grade application that doesn't matter as much but I still hand nail.
A siding gun like

or an all-purpose gun like

would work for you. Make sure you use ring-shank nails so they don't work their way out over time. You can get a flush nailer attachment that goes on the tip of the gun to ensure consistent nail depth.
Vertical shiplap, huh? Hope you have a good secondary watershed and are careful with your flashing....

Mike,
Funny you should mention the Hitachi line . I had my March issue of ToolCrib on the night stand and it was open to page 123 which is the Hitachi nail gun page. The #NV65AH or the #NV75AH were my two top choices. The 75 for the fact that it can be used as a framing gun also. I to am not to keen on the vertical siding but our customer wants this building to look like his barn which is near by. We are putting 1x4's horizontaly every 2' and around all windows and doors. This is being applied over 7/16 OSB, all for sure and solid nailing of the shiplap. There will be applied over the 1x4's TYKEC paper for moisture this will lap over all flashings (copper). Thanks Rick. Any suggestions on a secondary watershed application would be passed on the the owner .

SPHERE,
Why in your opinion is the MAX the best. What makes it so. I have heard about the brand but know little else. Rick

SPHERE,
Can you adjust the depth of drive like the Hitachi NV75AG. Weight is an issue also 4.6 lbs on the Hitachi. Rick.
Yeppers..the drive depth is a thumbwheel doodad...excellent control.
