We want to bring the second floor waste through the mainfloor space, not by burying the stack in a wall, but by running it straight down, centered where a round column is to be.
We will thus be splitting a round wood column, maybe 6″ OD or so, and “wrapping” the 3″ ID cast iron stack.
If you have done this, and have photos or techniques you can share, please step right up. Thanks.
Edit: In this pic, look at the column. Imagine it round, and larger, but with the same wall or box feature under, and the same kind of drop soffit over. That is what we will want to run the stack through.

Add some extra sound-deadening material.
We have buried stacks of 3" CI in interior walls, finished in plain old 1/2" Sheetrock, and things remain pretty quiet during flushes, showers, and tub drains. CI is the "quiet upgrade," and in the few houses I have built, I've not ever gone with PVC stacks.
What has been your experience with a CI stack inside a column cover as I am describing?
I used a column to hide the downspout on a frontporch.
put elbow in thru masonry, fished solid piece of pvc thru
column applied cement at bottom of pipe and connected
to the elbow and let pvc run wild 'til the roof was framed in.
installed scupper on roof and cemented to pipe after cutting to
length. Don't know if that would work for you (remodel?) but
it should for new construction.
