I think that I’m just being inpatient so while I wait I thought I’d ask the fellas ?? I’m upgrading my thermostat in a long list of upgrades and thought I had tracked down the correct breaker once in the past (I labeled one anyway) but now that I’m ready to do the work switching the breaker I labeled didn’t shut the existing thermostat off. It’s a Honeywell old school style and I’m replacing with a Amazon thermostat. I built the house in 2004 (ok, ok, not by myself obviously but I helped every day of construction) so it’s relatively new ish. It’s a tiny 900sq’ home with only a handful of breakers so there aren’t many to choose from. I’ve finally just shut the whole house down to be safe, but the dang thing is still running my gas fireplace. Am I being inpatient and just need to wait out the current?

In older homes like these, the main remodeling goal is often a more welcoming, more social, and more functional kitchen.

Where is the transformer that feeds the thermostat (and the burner control)
There isn't one it generates its own power. But I waited it out and it seems it was just slow to drain the current in the line.
If this is a gas fireplace - with a pilot, there may not be an actual power supply. The pilot might be generating its own power via a little milivolt generator thing that converts the heat from the pilot to a millivolt output.
Before you start tearing things apart make sure your new thermostat will work with a milivolt system - I bet not, if by ay "amazon thermostat" you mean an alexa thing with wifi, etc. At the very least those will need a cwire power supply from a 24 volt transformer (like your doorbell transformer)
The old style thermostat may start to seem more attractive when you dig into what'll take to get the new one working - if you can at all.
You're absolutely right, it does generate its own power. The gentleman who installed it also installed a C wire, or the electrician did in not sure. Either way it was never connected to the fireplace and since all the do-hickies are hidden behind the really available spots I decided not to chance hurting myself and went with installing a C wire alternative in a plug in transformer. Once I ignored it long enough to run its juice out I was able to install Amazon's newest alexa toy "Thermostat" and it's working perfectly! Yay now for touching up the wall...
Some thermostats contain a battery backup right, for when the power goes out? Are you certain yours does not have battery backup?
I run my millivolt gas fireplace with a wifi-enabled Honeywell thermostat, it works a charm, and yes, the thermostat did require a 24volt adapter to run.
Many modern digital thermostats are battery only.
Ya way old school type
Thank you all for your help! I'm installing a GFCI outlet in my laundry area next. I have to much going on one breaker so I'm moving the fridges power. I'll have this app open just in case ?? I have my trusty multimeter in hand and know one thing for sure about electricity... it hurts! I've seen what it can do and use every precaution.I just love busting through the projects the ex always said he was taking care of but never got done. What took him 12 years not to do has taken me less than a year to finish and find more that "only a professional" can do. No offense to the good old boys but there's a time and a place and it's not here or now hehe You guys are awesome thank you!
