A friend of ours visited last night, and told us a horror story. Her father rents out a house in Silver Spring, MD. Well they decided to sell the house. Iin the interim the father turns of the heat without draining the water lines. Pipes burst, water every where, and the nightmare begins. The house is a brick two story rambler. I’m supposed to go over there this weekend. Any ideas where to start, other than to dry the freakin’ place out for the next two months.

you'll have top open the sheetrock and peel insulation everywhere it might possibly have gotten wet to begin with. Plan to have a dumpster parked out front.
Lot of dry heat and fans to circulate air throughout to move the moisture out of materials, into air and out of the house.
Might need some de-humidifiers
Some companies like servicemaster have divisions that specialize in dealing with this sort of thing.

In that area ServPro (green trucks - I think that is how it is spelled) is the company generally used, at least by insurance companies.I don't know if they will do the actual repairs or not, but they will dry out the place.
yeah - there was an outfit like that that took care of one here where a boiler had malfunctioned with family gone. There was soot all through the house, then everything froze up and split the copper lines, then it thawed and water ran.....The servpro type folks did all the cleanup and then the contractors went to work rebuilding. One of my first big jobs was a similar thing back in the seventies. Guy was gone all week and only home on weekends. On tuesday there as a hard deep chill and winds. A supply line to the washing machine split from the freezeup and then started spraying a fine mist. When he got home friday night, he could not get in the front door. Every window and door had up to 2" of ice. I think he'd been keeping thermostat at 45-50 F but it was cold enough at the perimeter for frosting to happen. He said there was an inch of water on his oak floors on main level and the basement was not a nice place. He had the clean up done when I got called for the repairs a month later. New windows 'cause seals were broken from the stress/weight of ice on glass or whatever. New walls, new floors.....

Any chance of arson and an insurance claim?
;-)
Forrest
forget the arson, but why not an insurance claim ?
Rent the large dehumidifier from a local rental, run them as youpull all wet material out. That is what ServPro and other flood services do.
They will do the whole job if you want.
