I was taking up a deck today to rebuild. Amung the many things wroind with the way it was built is the way the posts were mounted. There were galvanized post mount bases that are intened to have a minimum of four 1/2″ galv lags. Wanna guess what was holding them?
I was curious why the post seemed so wobbly after I got the railing off it. when I surgically tore things down to get it off the dcek carefully, I found that the base was attaxched with one 3/8″ lag and three black sheet rock screws that were half rusted out. The rest of the posts came off with a quick twist and a yank. I saved somebodies life today.

Piffin and the cursed SR screws. A man with a mission.
Or a quixotic quest.
Misapplication of certain spherical wedges really screws me up.

SPIRAL!! SPIRAL!!!
SPHERICAL would be ROUND..not an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder!
you DO NOT want a Spherical WEDGE-IE..LOL

Helical.
A spiral is a different thing altogether.
Let's see... according to Webster, helical is spiral but spiral is a helix...
".. helical is spiral but spiral is a helix..."
Sounds circular to me.

All this roundabout reasoning has got me all screwed up

You'd have to be a real square to understand the turn this thread has taken.
Yeah, its screwy
They shudda read these<G> Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Isn't a spiral, 2-D?
And a helix, 3-D?
Just wondering...
That's the way I understand it. The other difference is that a spiral has a constantly changing radius, while a helix has a fixed radius.
So it must be a helical spiral, or is it spiracal helix. or it's a spherical helix conspired around a beer can.
SamT
you are indeed correct..a spiral glaxay is an example
and a DNA helix
neither of which is spherical

I'm sorry about that Piffin.
I was in a hurry and had to use what I had.
It won't happen again, I promise you.
I got some of those siver ones now so I'm all set.
I had to use SR screws in an exterior application today. Best tool for the job - boarding a vacant building up.

Were they Phillips head, square drive, or star drive? I usually find all three in something I'm taking appart, along witha couple of nails and a zinc carrage bolt and whatever else was in their tool bag...............
Don't forget to post some pictures of your new deck..........
