I have to re-attach a one-tile-high back splash that was glued to the wood of a cabinet that borders the end of a kitchen counter, right next to the cooktop, where there must be some degree of elevated temperature and maybe some steam from time to time.
Short of screwing expanded metal lath to the wood and using thinset to hold the tile, what is the best way to adhere tile to wood? It’s a 1970’s tract house, so I’m assuming the cabinets were finished with nitrocellulose lacquer.

Probably tile mastic is the way to go, but there are two types of tile mastic and I'm not sure how to tell you the right one to get.
