I have a question regarding tiling on a basement slab. My bathroom will be tiled and the transition will be to carpet. Should I install concrete backer board in the bathroom to bring the tile level up to the carpet level? I’m concerned with getting the tile at the correct level of the bottom of the door jamb on the bathroom side too.
If I do use backer board, should I just mortar that to the slab?
Thanks,
Doug

A. Tile directly to the slab.
This will make the Bathroom floor lower than the carpeted floor. Good. That way if there is a flood/ leak in the Bathroom it won't run into the carpeted area.
2. Use a marble saddle as the transition form the tile floor to the carpeted floor. It will also serve as a dam if there is a flood. Set it in thinset.
