I’ve been asked to install ceramic tile over a concrete floor. It’s a basement bathroom. The floor was originally covered with vinyl. Removing the vinyl revelaed the best concrete finish job I’ve ever seen! It is Soooo smmoth (like polished), I’m concerned that the thinset might not get enough “tooth” for good adhesion. Any opinions on how to rough it up a little?

Hi Chuck,
If it's that smooth and you are concerned about tooth for the tile, try a straight wash of muratic acid to break the surface of the concrete. As always, take precautions when using the stuff.

chuck..if it is in fact just concrete with no paint or whatever over it then use thinset with liquid latex mortar additive and it'll stick beautifully
Be stuck beautifully
