Friends have a now-hollow tiled front entry, the mortar has leached out?…,and need and want to replace it.
What is the best combinationof mortar bed material/tile type and how should it be laid to negate the hollowing effect? I have done some interior work, I’m new to exterior.
TIA ,cheers,Phil.

any ideas? ....any? ...Beuller.....Beuller?...........
just giving you another bump
where ya at?
I'm opposed to exterior tile for my climate ...
too much freeze/thaw ...
but ... http://www.mapei.com ... has lotsa info on recommended thinsets and systems.
I think Schluters also has an exterior tile system.

If you picture Seattle weather with a few more (seriously, only a few more ) frozen days...
it usually works here , but the whole grout/mortar/whatever they used, has leached out leaving the tile surface hollow...you can almost pick them apart with your hands... cheers,Phil. If it is to be.... 'twil be done by me.
Laticrete makes a thinset and an acrylic fortifier that looks like it would hold up to anything. Freeze-thaw is definitely not a problem for this stuff.
I'll see if I can find the mf'r part numbers tomorrow.
