Tile over linoleum over concrete slab
Need to tile a laundry room floor, 6×8 foot, currently covered with linoleum, about 25 years old. My tiling experience is over plywood or hardi substrate. The linoleum is stuck fast to the slab and is not the cushioned variety.
Is tiling over this stuff doable, and if so, any tips to ensure success.
The owners would prefer not to add another layer of backer, then tile, as the height difference would be quite noticable. There’s also the question about asbestos in the linoleum.
Thanks.

Hi Nick,
You can tile over lino using Mapei Keribond with Kerelast additive. Make sure to score the lino with a wire brush and to clean it thoroughly, then tile like normal. The lino must be in good shape, no paper showing or areas that have seperated from the concrete. I would recomend using Ditra still, because with the lino down, you can't tell if the concrete has any cracks that are indicative of shifting, and it does not add much height.
