clean it
use a medium thinset mortar
grout very well
do a good job
Is there any need to etch the old surface, with chemicals or mechanically? I pulled of a layer of tile someone else had put down and it popped right off. I don't want mine to do that. Joe
if the floor has some type of wax on it i would strip the floor.
another thing would be to use a product called ardex feather finish and do a skim coat on the floor. we use this and only this product brand for all of our patching.
the new mortar should bond very well to the floor after a skim coat. we have used ardex to patch sections of cracked terrazo and install sheet vinyl over with no problems. i realize that you are going to tile over this. the ardex is a portland based product so the thinset will not affect it at all.
