In the course of doing a basement remodel for a long-time customer, I got talked into setting marble floor tiles (12X12). I would like to apply sealer to the tiles before grouting, to minimize clean-up. Is this prudent, or might the sealer compromise the adhesion of the grout in the joints (1/8 inch)? Tlle setters, please comment. Thanks.

If the marble is polished, no need to seal. You said 1/8" joints so I assume that is the case.
Tumbled marble does need to be sealed however. I would install it and apply grout release (not sealer) with a short nap roller.
