timber flooring adhesive – why not wood glue?
In laying new timber boards over existing boards or over plywood instructions generally suggest gluing and nailing but the glue is always construction adhesive. I’m curious as to why you wouldn’t use wood glue (i.e. PVA glue) given in both cases you’re bonding wood to wood?

You want something with a little flex and the ability to fill small gaps. PVAs don't do these things very well. Also, PVAs have very little water resistance. True there shouldn't be water in a structure but things happen and there is always some small amount of moisture migrating through a structure.
