Building the proverbial Brick Sh thouse...
Not sure you can really say its open risers when over have the rise is closed by the 4" thick stair tread....maybe 1/2 open riser?
As to the question, I would think more nosing becomes dangerous with people catching the top of their toes as the proceed UP the stairs.

I am building stairs with two 4×12 timber stringers, open risers with 7 3/4″ rise and 9 1/2″ tread. Approximate run 10 ft. My plan is 4 inch thick solid stairs and I am wondering if I need to stay within the max 1.25″ nosing. This is not is a code area but I want it to be safe and look good.
