I’ve always had a hard time cutting small screws (#6, 8, 10, etc.), or steel rod stock which I seem to frequently need to do. I have one of those strippers/crimpers with threaded holes for cutting screws, but it’s never worked well, and takes a lot of force; usually messes up the threads at the cut. The other day, I had a eureka moment, and simply chucked the screw in my cordless drill. I then just spun the drill while lightly holding a hacksaw blade at the desired point. Worked great. I realize that if you do this a lot the lateral loading may wear out your drill, but it’s been a lifesaver for me.

If the stripper/cutters aren't working then you're putting the screw in the wrong way. Put it in so you have to go through the threads first then the cutter. When you make the cut you have to back it out through the screws. That straightens them back up and they are as good as new. Much faster and easier then using a drill and a hacksaw.

After cutting it i like to screw it in a little more and hit the end of the screw with a pass or 2 with a file and then unscrew it..

I just use a wire drill one size smaller than the threads on a piece of hard maple ripped to the size of the screw I need. Thread it in and put it on the grinder and use a die to even the first thread out.

LOL!
Run through a lotta saw blades, do yuh?
Put on your nut first, cut your screw/rod, then back it off. The nut's threads will carve/shape the threads on its way out.
